Upon stepping down from his position this afternoon, former Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott has released the following statement for the club’s members and supporters…
“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the club since its creation, and to have played a part in the re-birth of a fantastic football club. The board have been unwavering in their support, for which I thank them. The fans’ support for the team has been tremendous, and again I am indebted.
“I reflect with pride upon the building of a side from scratch with limited resources in every sense, the development of that side as resources grew, and the implementation of a style of play which has been much complimented over the past three seasons and become synonymous with the football club.
“A league record 27-game unbeaten run, third and second placed league finishes, three cup finals, a fantastic FA Cup run which amassed over £10,000 in prize money for the club – and included notable victories over Walsall Wood, Bromsgrove Sporting and Redditch United, are highlights in particular.
“On top of all of that however, an FA Vase run last season where a Wembley final turned from dream into a potential reality contains the memories I will hold most dear.
“We have seen our players move time and time again to clubs two and three leagues higher, a compliment and irritation in equal measures. Whilst we should recognise and appreciate the quality of footballers we have had at this club – and the difficulty and set backs faced in continually being forced to rebuild – we should also be proud that we have developed players, and been such a breeding ground for players to improve and thrive. This is none more evident than in the case of Alex Penny, now a League One professional footballer with Peterborough United and a player who, when arriving at Hinckley AFC, was at his lowest ebb and appeared destined for the football scrapheap. In little over three years of existence we have spawned a professional footballer. This is some feat.
“It hurts me greatly when I read that we have not developed in the last three or four years. Please appreciate what you have and what you have achieved. These things take time and perseverance.
“It has been my pleasure to have represented you as manager. I have a deep affection for this football club and the people involved, both still here and no longer with us. You have left a lasting impression on me, and I hope I will be welcome at the club to support the team with you in the future.
“At a time where a little appetite for change has been voiced, I have an opportunity to move on to a club at a higher level, and I feel the time is right for me to take on that challenge, and allow for fresh impetus here.
“This has been a heart wrenching decision, and again, from the bottom of my heart I thank all associated with the club for the opportunity and support. I have given you everything I have.
“Finally thanks to my staff and players, throughout my time here, I cannot speak highly enough of each and everyone of you.
“Carl”
