Match Preview: Kimberley Miners Welfare (h)

Chris Tullin will take charge of his first home game as Hinckley AFC manager when Kimberley Miners Welfare visit Kirkby Road this weekend.

After an away double-header saw AFC beaten twice, Tullin took much more heart from the performance in Monday’s narrow loss away to Gresley Rovers and will hope that the bulk of that display is replicated in front of the home faithful this weekend.

AFC will still be without Ky Green and Max Jemson through injuries, while captain Zaki Evans is getting closer to a return following a hip flexor issue.

The opposition

Like Hinckley, Kimberley have had a mixed start to the new season – with three wins and four draws from their opening seven games pitting them just inside the bottom half of the table.

And their campaign so far has gone in streaks – an opening away win at Deeping Rangers was followed by four consecutive defeats in which they conceded 17 goals, then three straight wins in which they conceded just once, and then back-to-back defeats again.

Those victories came against Sherwood Colliery, a particularly impressive win on the road, as well as Skegness Town and Gresley Rovers (League Cup), but have been balanced out by a 6-0 hammering at Ashby Ivanhoe and 3-0 at Aylestone Park – AFC will hope their struggles in Leicestershire continue.

From the dressing room

“We’ve got to take the performance level from Monday into this weekend. That work rate, graft, and we kept the ball well but with that directness. It’s a game that we’ll want to go out and win through keeping that performance level high.”
