Three previous meetings between Hinckley AFC and Histon have brought 18 goals – will that entertainment continue when the sides meet again in Cambridge tomorrow?
The last two matches between these sides, at Bridge Road last March and at Kirkby Road in September, have drawn remarkable similarities. In both, Histon led 2-0 before Hinckley hit back to go 3-2 ahead, only for the Stutes to snatch a point in stoppage time.
Now Hinckley head to Cambridge again in the hope of ending their run of defeats, as their tough start to 2026 continues against another of the league’s high flyers.
The opposition
Histon are arguably the surprise package of the season, having finished 12th last season and won only two of their first seven games this time around.
But since then, they have soared up to third in the table – winning 15 of their last 21 in the league to put themselves in pole position for a play-off spot. Only Nuneaton have won more points in that spell, and only Nuneaton have scored more goals than their tally of 65 this season.
At the back, no side in the top eight has conceded more but they have addressed that recently with four clean sheets in their last six games.
They ended 2025 with defeat at home to Eynesbury but have put that behind them with three straight wins to start the new year, including against fellow hopefuls Moulton.
Connor Barnes is their leading scorer with 24 but Jordan Foster has 13 and captain Max York has 11 from centre-back – he has also scored in each of the last two against Hinckley.
From the dressing room
“The home game was pretty end-to-end. It was frantic, and they scored from a free-kick late on to make it 3-3 and deny us the win. I fancy us to win, after the performances we’ve been putting in, the group of lads we’ve got will get around each other and we can go there and put a performance on.”
