Hinckley AFC’s frustrating inconsistency continued as they followed up last week’s 5-1 win by falling to a comprehensive 4-1 defeat at Coventry United.
It was a performance made all the more frustrating by the fact Hinckley started on top, and made all the running up until Luke Jones headed them into a fifth minute lead.
But after that, their performance subsided dramatically and they were fortunate to make it to the 77th minute still level, before an own goal and a Dylan Parker brace saw United run away with the points.
Joe Conneely made just two changes to the side that won so well last week – Ky Green became the latest addition to the lengthy injury list while Brady Middleton was away, so Calum Flanagan and Adam Barber came in.
And for the first five minutes, Hinckley looked to have picked up where they left off last week. They put together some neat moves and took a deserved lead when Jones headed home Bryan Kohyrelon’s cross.
But after that, the nature of the game completely flipped and the home side quickly found joy. With their first attack, Cameron Dunn got in behind but scuffed his effort off the post and Oli Szymanski scrambled clear.
Dunn and Riley Davoile both then spurned chances when through on goal, as Keelan Fallows raced out to deny both with excellent saves, before Davoile stroked his side level from the edge of the box just after the half hour.
The sides traded chances before the break, but Jake Bull’s save from Kohyrelon’s solo effort and Fallows denying Dunn at the far post ensured the sides went in level at the break.
The opening to the second half was quiet as neither side created much, but Hinckley had the best chance to re-take the lead as Barber latched onto Chris Cox’s weak header but lobbed the bouncing ball narrowly wide.
And with 13 minutes to play, the home side turned the game on its head as a cross from the left skimmed off Flanagan’s head and nestled inside the corner.
Even Davoile missing a sitter, failing to hit the target from a couple of yards out, couldn’t save Hinckley and the home side added gloss to the scoreline late on.
They were two similarly made goals, as Parker twice broke the offside trap in the space of five minutes and finished neatly both times to secure the home side’s deserved win and leave Hinckley wondering how last week’s display had disappeared so quickly.
