Hinckley AFC’s Under 18s won again to go top of the Midland Floodlit Youth League Eastern Division by beating Leicester Road 1-0.
Despite the result, it was a frustrating night for the youngsters who could only put one chance of many away but kept their unbeaten start going, writes Lee Measom.
Hinckley started well and a few minutes in Leo Kelly had a shot comfortably saved by the visiting ‘keeper, before moments later Checkland had a chance after a ball over the top but put it over.
Kelly, once again at the heart of things for Hinckley down the left-hand side, had a shot but forced another good save from the visiting keeper.
Hinckley finally broke the deadlock midway through the half, a good corner by Friday found the head of Gamble who scored.
A ball over the top by the visitors caused trouble at the back for AFC as they tried to hit back. Gamble missed his header and Leicester Road’s shot was somehow cleared by the AFC defence for a corner.
Shortly after, AFC had a corner of their own which again was delivered beautifully but Sarjeant put it over.
The final chance of the game came for the visitors, a corner half cleared by the home defence but only to a visiting player whose effort went wide from 25 yards.
But Hinckley’s defence held out for a clean sheet and win that puts them to the summit of the early season table.
