A long 178 days has passed since Hinckley AFC played a competitive match – but on Tuesday that wait comes to an end when Courtney Belford’s side welcome Cadbury Athletic to Kirkby Road.
When the referee called time on a win over Ashby Ivanhoe on 14th March, Hinckley fans weren’t to know that would be the last they’d see of their side for almost six months.
But fast forward to now and the club have a new home in a new era back in the borough for the first time, as matchday one at Barwell’s Kirkby Road home arrives.
And Belford says his side will be raring to go, and is hoping for a big crowd to cheer his side on: “We want to play in front of a big crowd. That’s hopefully what we can get here at Barwell and it’s great for us to be back in the borough.”
You can read more from the manager in our matchday programme, available for £1.50 from just inside the turnstiles.
The opposition are a Cadbury side who edged past Nuneaton Griff on the opening day. They’re under new management after Ollie Hartill took over from long-standing boss Matt Kirby in the summer, hoping to improve on last season’s finish when they sat 16th when lockdown brought a premature end.
With the division running with 19 teams this year, Hinckley were the only side who didn’t play on Saturday meaning Belford’s men have had a longer wait than the rest.
Up to 300 supporters are allowed into the ground to watch the match. To ensure Track and Trace procedures are followed, you can either download the app evePASS and scan our code on entry, download and print our Hinckley AFC – Track and Trace form or give your details on entry.
