Defensive addition as Jemson signs

Hinckley AFC have completed a move for towering centre-half Max Jemson ahead of the new season.

A dominant defender, Jemson has plenty of experience in our new league despite still being relatively young, having previously played for Gresley Rovers, Melton Town, Heanor Town and AFC Mansfield in the United Counties Premier North.

He spent time as a youth at Doncaster Rovers before moving into non-league, where Sleaford Town and Grantham Town were his first clubs.

But it was for Mansfield where he spent the most time, featuring in more than 50 games before moving to Gresley, where under the management former AFC boss Courtney Belford, he helped them avoid relegation with a late-season surge. Spells with Heanor and Melton followed last season.

Max comes from good stock with his father Nigel playing professionally for Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough, while elder brother Charlie has also had a non-league career and played against Hinckley for Ilkeston Town in 2017/18.

Joint Manager Adam Davies said: “We knew that we needed to bring in some experience to lead our younger players who stepped up and did incredibly well last season, and Jemmo is exactly that. He is loud, aggressive, quick and professional in how he operates.

“He was a player we attempted to sign last season so we are absolutely delighted to get him in Hinckley AFC colours for the new season.”

Jemson added: “I’m really looking forward to getting started. From the first training session you could tell that the club has a great environment.

“I spoke to Courtney Belford and he couldn’t speak highly enough about the club and management staff. Hopefully I can contribute and be a part of a successful season.”

Welcome to Hinckley, Max!
