Hinckley AFC 2-3 Moulton

Hinckley’s wretched home form continued as Moulton inflicted their seventh straight loss at Kirkby Road to move into the semi finals of the League Cup.

It was Moulton’s league victory here back in November that began this sorry sequence and this game resembled many that followed, a tepid first half display saw Hinckley fall behind and whilst the second half was a vast improvement, they had left themselves too much to do.

On a breezy evening, Hinckley were forced into four changes with players being cup tied and the visitors controlled the first half. They took an early lead when Divin Emmanuel parried a shot but Terry Falcini was well placed to tuck home the rebound.

Hinckley struggled to make an impression in the final third and Moulton carried the greater threat in front of goal. A couple of goalbound efforts were well blocked in the home box and Moulton increased the pressure as half time approached. Edward Odley crashed a shot against the underside of the bar before Mohammed Khan seized on a weak back header before clipping the post with his shot.

Moulton doubled their lead just before the break, it was a well worked goal as Falcini added his second, finishing a fluent passing move that swept across the field.

AFC upped their tempo after the break, Louis Baker dragged a shot wide and Zach Tellyn’s teasing cross shot was clawed away by Adam North for a corner that Baker headed wide.

Hinckley got their reward midway through the half as Chandler Pegg ran through the inside left channel to shoot across the keeper and inside the far post.

The home side sensed a way back and the introduction of Prince Ogbe gave their attack a new dimension, but Moulton secured their progress ten minutes from time when the unlucky Tellyn couldn’t avoid a driven cross from the left and diverted the ball into his own net.

Hinckley pulled one back as the game entered time added on, Baker driving the ball through a crowd of players after Jake Tullin’s shot came back off a post, but it was too little, too late and AFC’s final chance of a trophy this season was gone.
