Match Preview: Clay Cross Town (a)

After a fortnight without a game, Hinckley AFC start October’s agenda with a first ever trip to Clay Cross Town in the United Counties Premier North.

Since the narrow defeat to Heanor Town two weeks ago, Hinckley have had time to recover and put plans into action on the training pitch as Chris Tullin looks for an upturn in form heading into a new month.

Hinckley will be boosted by the returns of Ky Green and Charlie Williams, with new additions George Dimmock and Max Kirby both in line for debuts too. But skipper Zaki Evans continues to be frustrated by his hip flexor issue, and this week will come too soon for Max Jemson although the centre-back is progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The opposition

Clay Cross have enjoyed a bright start to the season, with six wins and 19 points from their opening 10 games putting them third in the table.

After back-to-back defeats to AFC Mansfield and Sherwood Colliery, they got back to winning ways last time out with a come-from-behind win at Hucknall, while they’re also the only side to beat leaders Belper United so far.

12-goal Brodie Litchfield, a striker with plenty of higher-level experience with the likes of FC United of Manchester, Basford United and Belper Town, is their leading scorer but he’s been well supported by Basile Zottos, who has eight.
