Hinckley AFC are back under the Monday night floodlights at Kirkby Road with the visit of Bugbrooke St Michaels in the United Counties Premier South.
After a break for the League Cup on Saturday, in which Hinckley progressed on penalties past Staveley Miners Welfare, it’s back to the bread and butter of the league with AFC looking for a win that would lift them from 15th to sixth, such is the tight nature of the early-season table.
It’s one win and three draws from the new management team’s first four games in charge, a positive start which they will now want to turn into victories.
And they will be boosted by the availability of new signing Kevin Hemagou for the first time, who has been away since signing from Lichfield.
The opposition
Bugbrooke also progressed in the League Cup at the weekend, overcoming Premier North strugglers Belper United 2-0.
And that has continued their upward curve in the last couple of weeks, after a difficult start to the season that has left them second from bottom.
They came from behind to beat bottom side GNG Oadby Town a fortnight ago, while between those two wins, they were holding league leaders Nuneaton Town until well into the second half last week.
Their other league point came courtesy of a draw with Leicester Nirvana – but six defeats in their eight games leaves them two points from safety and no side has scored fewer goals than their five.
From the dressing room
“They’ve had a few tough games early on, and we’ve spoken to a few managers who have come up against them. They’ve all said that Bugbrooke have been a decent side and that the table is a bit harsh on them. We know how they set up, and that they play through a good centre forward, so we’ll try to nullify that and exploit where we think we can attack them to get three points.”
