Shilton departs for step 4

Hinckley AFC can confirm that centre-back Jacob Shilton has left the club to take up an offer from a step four club as he looks to move up the footballing ladder.

After receiving a seven-day approach from a higher-level side, Shilton has taken the decision to move up a league after a year with Hinckley in which he firmly established himself at step five.

He arrived on the promise of more games and that promise was fulfilled. Since joining last September, he played every minute of every Hinckley AFC game from that point – 44 of them in total, in which he chipped in with six goals.

Manager Chris Tullin said: “Jacob has been a fantastic servant to the club in just over a year that he has been here. He’s been a huge player for us, scoring some crucial goals and being a tower of strength in both boxes.

“We are naturally disappointed to lose a player of Jacob’s calibre but also delighted that he has the opportunity to progress higher up in the footballing pyramid.

“Jacob has conducted himself exceptionally well over this period as have his new club and we thank them for this.”

Shilton added: “I would like to thank the management, players and fans for making we feel welcome and helping me grow as a footballer. However, this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down as I look to move up the ladder.

“I want to wish Tulls, Coops and the players the best of luck for the rest of the season. I have no doubt that way in which they want to move forward will be successful.”

Thank you for your efforts in a Hinckley shirt, Jacob, and good luck for the future.
