Hinckley AFC’s opening pre-season friendly ended in a 1-0 defeat to Sutton United at Coleshill Road.
On a hot night, Lewis Wall’s excellent strike was the only difference as he fired home a bouncing ball first-time from just outside the box, after Hinckley twice half-cleared a cross.
Keelan Fallows kept Hinckley in it with an excellent penalty save, pushing wide Joe Gildea’s spot kick, but AFC couldn’t take advantage of that and were beaten in the West Midlands.
Next up for Joe Conneely and his side is the visit of Coventry Sphinx to Kirkby Road on Friday evening, kick off 7.45pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
