A home clash with Histon at Kirkby Road kicks off September for Hinckley AFC who will look to start the new month with a valuable home win.
Despite battling well against fancied title challengers Aylestone Park and Daventry Town, the only point Hinckley have to show for their efforts at Kirkby Road so far came in the draw with Easington Sports.
When Histon make the journey over from Cambridge, Hinckley will be hoping that a similar performance to the one at March last week but with more quality in front of goal will see them add to that tally.
The opposition
Hinckley and Histon do have history in league matches – Hinckley United and the Stutes spent two years in the Conference North together.
They also met in an FA Cup tie in 2009, when Hinckley beat Histon in the competition the season after arguably Histon’s greatest day – a win over Leeds United.
Since relegation from the National League 13 seasons ago, they have dropped back to step five and are now in their third season at this level.
In six league games so far, they have picked up a win over Coventry United and three draws – but their games have been fairly short on goals. Only Rugby Borough and St Neots Town have conceded fewer, but no side has scored fewer. Matt Allan and Dan Gould have two goals apiece in all competitions.
From the dressing room
“We want to test ourselves at a better level, but we need to get used to it quickly. We can’t afford to get away with what we did last season. We need to rectify that and I’ll need to do something about it, because we can’t go on losing games that we should win based on the performance, like at March last week.
“It’ll be a tough game, Histon have been a big club in non-league football. For us, we’re glad to be back at home and we’ll want to start September well. Hopefully there will be another good crowd down, to watch what will be a difficult game for us but one we’re looking forward to.”
