Hinckley AFC midfielder Ryan Seal said the dressing room always remained strong despite the three straight defeats before yesterday’s win over Cadbury Athletic.
After losing two league games and then exiting the FA Vase, Carl Abbott’s side had a difficult end to January.
But Seal said the performances in those defeats meant the squad remained positive and that showed with their return to winning ways at Cadbury. He said: “At any level, if you lose three games you’re going to be down but we’ve got a strong group of lads in there.
“We were playing really well so to lose those last three games is a little bit hard but we knew that if we kept playing the way we were then the results would come.
“It’s proved today. Cadbury aren’t a bad team, they won five on the trot before today but we could have scored five or six today.”
The game saw a change of formation as the side played three at the back in their win over The Chocolatemen, but Seal said the changes to his role were minimal.
“For the lads in the middle and up front I don’t think it changed much. Maybe for the lads at the back, they had to sort out who was sweeping at times and not to get ahead of the ball.
“But the way I look at it, those lads are frightening going forward so it we can get them as far up the pitch as possible it’s treat for everyone.”
The club captain’s early penalty gave AFC the lead, which was built on by Jamal Clarke and James Williams, and after a lean spell by his own high standards recently, Seal said it was nice to get back on the scoresheet.
“It’s been a long time hasn’t it! Three games, as Abbo likes to keep reminding me! It’s always nice to get a goal, especially on a special day.”
