Match Preview: Eynesbury Rovers (h)

Hinckley AFC begin 2026 with a home game against Eynesbury Rovers at Kirkby Road on Saturday providing our first outing of the New Year.

After ending 2025 with Boxing Day’s narrow derby defeat to Atherstone, AFC started the new year in sixth and will look to kick off 2026 with a better result to remain in touch with the sides above and around them.

The opposition

Eynesbury have had an up and down season so far but picked up arguably their best result of the campaign yet to end 2025 by winning 4-3 away to third-placed Histon.

Their last six games have yielded three wins and three losses, perhaps summing up their inconsistencies as a whole, but they will be hoping to now replicate their form after Christmas last season.

Currently, they sit in 13th place, with 27 points from their 20 games – but that’s only two fewer points than they had after 20 games last term, when they went on a remarkable run in the second half of the season to sneak into the play-offs.

Their win at Histon saw four different goalscorers – their three leading marksmen Luke Young (21 goals this season), Victor Osobu (11) and Lewis Lynn (eight) all found the net, as did Jordan Brown who’s got four in five games since joining in December.

From the dressing room

“Our 3-0 win there in October was one of our most complete performances so far but we learnt that day that Eynesbury are very good. The 3-0 scoreline didn’t flatter us but they’re a good team and we have to go into today with the mindset that we’ll have to roll our sleeves up.

“They’re one of the better teams we’ve faced, alongside the likes of March and Moulton, they’re athletic and powerful, we have to be ready for a tough battle if we want to get 2026 off to the perfect start.”
