Hinckley AFC 2-5 March Town United

Hinckley AFC surrendered their unbeaten home league record this season after a dominant second half display from March Town turned a finely balanced game at the break into a comfortable away win by the end.

The first half was a great advert for the league, two well matched teams played out an excellent 45 minutes with goals of the highest quality on both sides to make it 2-2 at the interval.

But March stepped up a gear or two thereafter and a devastating burst of three goals in fifteen minutes early in the second half ensured the points would be going back to Cambridgeshire.

After a cagey opening to the game, chances came and went at either end, Tyler Knowles’ header from a well worked corner was saved by Keelan Fallows and Zach Tellyn saw his shot saved at full stretch by Jonah Gill, but Tellyn wasn’t to be denied as he opened the scoring on twenty minutes. It was another special effort from the winger as he curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

March responded well, Matty Foy headed against the outside of a post and Ben Tait volleyed wide before Jared Bradshaw’s clever footwork at the other end created a shooting chance that was saved by Gill.

The Hares levelled with ten to play until half time, a similar strike to Tellyn’s as Adam Brumby curled his shot into the far corner from the left hand corner of the area.

As the game went into time added on at the end of the half, March went in front, a superb strike from Flo Tsaguim who drilled home a free kick from the edge of the area. But there was still time for Hinckley to level it up again, wonderful work from Tellyn on the right flank saw him deliver a pin point cross that Middleton headed home.

It was a thrilling end to an excellent half, leaving fans expectant as to what was to follow but it was the visitors who took the game by the scruff of its neck. They attacked with pace and purpose down both flanks and almost regained their lead but James Sanderson did superbly to block from Tsaguim who seemed poised to score on the far post.

The visitors’ wait for a goal was a short one though, the excellent Tsaguim did well on the right flank and laid the ball back for Tait to tuck his shot home.

March were on top now and after James Hill-Seekings curled a shot wide, he increased their lead meeting Tsaguim’s cross from the right with a diving header to make it 4-2.

Hinckley almost responded when Middleton’s trickery got him into a shooting position but he dragged his shot wide of the far post before March added another midway through the half. A neat build up on their right flank found Tait who guided home his second of the afternoon from the edge of the area.

The points were secured and the visitors were content to play out the remainder of the game without adding to the scoreline leaving Hinckley’s management with much to ponder before Tuesday’s derby at league leaders Nuneaton.
