Hinckley AFC face a trip to Daventry Town on Saturday for a second consecutive away trip to another play-off contender.
Just a week after the late defeat at Newport Pagnell, Hinckley visit another of the sides hoping to make it into the top five, with Daventry just one point and one place above AFC in the table.
Ahead of the game, Hinckley have mixed news on the injury front – Ky Green and Joe Obi will both miss out after picking up knocks last week, but Calum Flanagan is fit again after missing the last two games.
The opposition
A 4-2 win over Bugbrooke St Michaels on Tuesday lifted Daventry back up to sixth, after their FA Vase run – the longest of any Premier South side – ended last week with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Erith & Belvedere.
It put them level on points with ON Chenecks in fifth, one above Hinckley, and such is the tight nature of the division that seven sides are now separated by just five points from fourth down to tenth. Six of those seven face each other this weekend.
Daventry’s up and down season so far saw them go unbeaten in the league until the end of August, but they then won just once in the league in September and October combined before another unbeaten month in November. Now on another good patch, they’re yet to taste defeat in normal time in 2025.
Like Hinckley, they aren’t reliant on one person for goals. Luke Knight is their leading scorer with 12, six of them penalties, while Dylan Wilson has nine.
From the dressing room
“It’ll be really tough. They’re another team who are fighting for the same thing that we are. It’ll be a difficult game on a difficult pitch. I went to watch them beat Bugbrooke on Tuesday so learnt a lot from that.
“We’ll have to patch up and see who we’ve got available to prepare for a game against a good side. We’ll try to get the three points back that we lost last week.”
