Hinckley AFC’s first away trip of the new season sees a visit to another of last season’s play-off contenders Bilston Town.
After a win and a loss to start the campaign, Hinckley now visit the West Midlands for their first away day of the new season.
And after finishing seventh and sixth in the last two seasons, Bilston have hopes of continuing that upward trend and cementing a play-off spot this time around.
The opposition
Last season Bilston started well and ended well, ultimately being denied a play-off spot by a middle period of the season in which they lost eight out of 14 games.
This time around they have suffered back-to-back defeats – going down to early pace setters Stapenhill 2-1 at home last weekend, and a 5-3 reverse at Droitwich Spa in midweek.
Ex-Chemsley striker Sam Yankson scored twice in that match as they twice came from behind to level before Droitwich pulled away in the second half.
They lost leading scorer Dan Westwood over the summer but retained much of the rest of their core, while adding former Hinckley defender Ben Kendrick to their ranks.
Previous meetings
The two meetings last season were the first between the sides – Hinckley winning 3-0 at Queen Street in November courtesy of a Tom Weale double and one for Lewis Collins, before a pulsating 1-1 draw in April which could have gone either way – Matt Dawson grabbed Hinckley’s opener that day before Mitchell Evans levelled.
