Manager Joe Conneely was delighted with the way his Hinckley side backed up Monday’s 9-0 win with another away to AFC Bridgnorth.
Hinckley strengthened their place in the Division One play-offs with a 5-2 win at Crown Meadow to make it four consecutive wins, and five successive away league victories.
This one drew qualities of a different kind from Monday’s, but still yielded three points in the first match of December.
And Conneely reflected on last season’s record-breaking with at St Martins, which wasn’t followed up with another, compared with this time around.
He said: “You win 9-0 and the next game, you’re always there to be shot at. We went to St Martins and won 18-0 last year, the week after we drew 3-3 at Barrow.
“There’s always that carrot for the other team after you beat someone heavily but we responded really well.
“The goals we scored were superb, and Chandler’s was a fantastic strike to really kill the game at 4-1.”
The manager was particularly pleased with the differing nature of the wins. He has stressed this season that his side will sometimes need to play differently away from home than they do at home, when coming across bumpy winter pitches.
And he felt the win at Bridgnorth, and previously at Bilston a fortnight ago, were good examples of that.
“It’s a tough place to come. The pitch is not great, there’s a slope from one end to the other so we went up the slope first half.
“We conceded a poor goal early on but from that, I thought we were really good. They had pace up front that caused us issues for 15 minutes but once we settled into the game we were good.
“At half time, we said worst case scenario it ends 2-1. Then we got a goal early in the second half when the lights went out. We were happy to get the game done, come here and win 5-2.”
Conneely praised the referee’s sensible management of the floodlight issue, saying everyone felt it was “visibly safe” to continue.
And that allowed a goal from the returning Ryan Slinn to round off the scoring in Shropshire. His return, combined with a debut for Sam Walton, left the manager pleased with how they settled in.
“He (Slinn) gave it the Shearer celebration from a cross! But we’re delighted to have him back. He’s gone to Barrow and done really well there.
“Sam Walton did well on his debut too. But it’s just another win and we move on to another difficult game against Black Country next week.”
