Hinckley AFC go in search of a third straight win this evening but will have to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Brocton if they’re to manage it.
AFC have recorded six points out of six in the last week with wins over Stafford Town and Paget Rangers to lift them to sixth in the league.
Tonight, they take on a Brocton side who are still unbeaten in the league but have drawn four of their opening five games.
And manager Courtney Belford knows the Badgers will pose a threat to his side’s winning run. He said: “They’re a good side, especially at home. They’re going to be up there come the end of the season, as we hope we are.
“They’ve got a team that’s been together for a long time. They lost a couple of their better players from last year who went to Chasetown. It can take time to add to your squad but they’ve got a couple of bodies in now.
“We’ve watched them, so we’ll be ready. It’ll be a good game between two good sides who want to play the right way, hopefully it’s one we can try and win.”
Brocton scored a late equaliser against Lichfield City on Saturday to salvage that unbeaten record, with stalemates against Coventry Copsewood, Ashby Ivanhoe and Atherstone Town in their early season record too.
Their only league win so far came against Cadbury Athletic last week – and though they have only scored ten league goals, they have come from an impressive breadth with nine players getting on the scoresheet already. Only Jack Weldon (two goals) has netted more than once with the Badgers sharing out the early season scoring.
AFC won the only meeting between the sides in last year’s shortened season, a 2-1 win at the Welfare Ground in September. The reverse fixture was never played.
Brocton play at Silkmore Lane, Stafford, ST17 4JH. The ground is approximately two and a half miles from Junction 13 of the M6
