Our first game of the year, and what a way to start. Into the fourth round of the FA Vase for the first time, and our first game against non-midlands based opposition was one to remember.
Three up inside nine minutes went a long way to ensuring our run in the competition went on, with Lee Butler’s peach of a free kick followed up by two in three minutes from Luke Richards to leave Berko shellshocked.
Javia Roberts and Ryan Seal added further goals after half time to send Carl Abbott’s side into the hat for the last 16.

Hinckley AFC 2-0 AFC Mansfield

Following that year’s success, we were exempted from this season’s competition until the second round, when we were pitted against tough opposition in AFC Mansfield.
Rudy Funk’s side had lost just once in their league, a level above AFC, all season until they came to SJP.
Under the new stewardship of Dale Belford, Hinckley’s new-look squad were still gelling but Richards stepped up again with another brace to ensure our strong Vase pedigree continued.
