Hinckley AFC can confirm that the club raised a total of £1966.20 through our initiatives as part of World Cancer Day 2017.
On World Cancer Day itself, Saturday 4th February, the club wore a pink kit in our away match at Cadbury Athletic as our way of recognising the battles that many connected with the club were facing.
The pink kit was also worn in the following match against Stafford Town, and for one final time against Uttoxeter Town in a game that took place the day after Simon Blyth’s funeral.
The Uttoxeter match also saw a big World Cancer Day raffle alongside the releasing of pink balloons in Simon’s memory, all of which contributed towards the final total.
That total fund will be split between the three charities we decided on through local or topical connections – Cancer Research UK, Children with Cancer and Bloodwise.
Donations will also be made to Simon’s partner Julia and the family of Harvey Priest, our junior goalkeeper who suffers from leukemia.
Club Director Steph McKeown said: “We’re delighted with the final total raised. “The support that the initiatives received from fans was beyond what we could have imagined.
“It’s a fitting tribute to Simon that we raised such a high amount for either local cancer charities or those which we felt had a natural connection through what they support.”
