Hinckley AFC’s final home game of 2024 sees them look to make it seven wins in a row at Kirkby Road as Godmanchester Rovers are the visitors for a 2pm kick off, as kids go free.
After a weekend off last Saturday, Hinckley are back for one final time before Christmas as they take on the league’s bottom side.
And they will be boosted by a double injury return as Isa Abraham is fit to return after three months out with a knee problem, while Alex Vineall has also got over the concussion that has kept him out for four weeks.
Add in the return of Zaki Evans and the newly re-signed Chandler Pegg, and Joe Conneely has good numbers at his disposal ahead of the final home game of the year.
The opposition
Godmanchester come into the game sitting bottom of the table, with four straight league defeats since they won away to second-bottom GNG Oadby Town in early November.
But they have shown they can compete with the sides towards the top of the table – they held Rugby Borough to a 0-0 draw away, and the first of their three league wins this season came away to March Town United.
Of their 11 points this season, eight have come on the road while they also beat Hinckley in the reverse fixture in September.
Despite having scored the fewest goals in the division, they have only failed to score in one of their last 11. Dan Brown is their leading scorer with seven.
From the dressing room
“They’re probably a side who we owe a performance against, because we were horrendously bad in the away game in September and didn’t turn up on the day. But a lot has changed since then and we’re in a much better place now with a few new faces, while Godmanchester have got a new manager too.
“If we have aspirations, we need to try and win as many of our home games as possible and hopefully this will be the start of another good run for us to end this year and start 2025.”
Joe Conneely
