Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott says this current spell at the club is the most he’s ever enjoyed being a manager.
The past three months have seen Hinckley lose just once since the end of August, and Abbott’s side have already scored 59 league goals this season in just fourteen games.
AFC were comprehensive victors on the road for the second week running yesterday, with a 7-3 win at Bolehall Swifts meaning they have scored 34 goals in their last five league games.
And Abbott said the confidence in the changing room is sky high at the moment. He said: “You can hear how confident we are. We’re enjoying every game.
“The lads really enjoy each other’s company, training is buzzing and there’s loads of social stuff going on.
“It’s great to be around at the moment and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s the most I’ve enjoyed being a manager in six years of doing it.”
The former Wolves Casuals boss was full of praise for his side’s attacking prowess in the win at Rene Road. Despite conceding twice late on, Abbott felt his side’s performance in what was an end-to-end game was very good.
“We probably subbed our way out of the last five or ten minutes, we lost our shape a bit and that counts for the manic looking scoreline.
“But it was a really excellent performance again. We picked up where we left off last week at Lichfield and played some great football on a difficult pitch.
“We’re in our stride at the minute. We’re very entertaining, great going forward, quite resolute and we’re very happy with the way things are going.”
Paul Sullivan was one of the stars of yesterday’s win, netting a hat-trick as well as providing key contributions to other goals. Abbott heaped praise upon the former Chasetown man, labelling him “a little magician”.
“He’s looking every bit the player that he was at Hednesford. His feet, his ball mastery, he’s got that little half a yard extra now and he’s winning headers and flick ons.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him”
Bolehall made some attacking substitutions at half time in an attempt to claw themselves back into the game, and while they scored three times the game was very open and that also allowed AFC lots of chances.
And despite scoring seven times against them Abbott was respectful of Bolehall and said they are a good side who will be challenging for an FA Cup spot.
“They brought Dave Yonwin on at half time, Joe Obi’s a good player and Francis up top is excellent. They’ve got some quality in midfield and I thought their keeper was exceptional.
“But I just think we’re insatiable at the moment and we’re taking it a game at a time. There are a couple of sides who have stated their ambition to win the league and are doing the old ‘#promotion’ thing, but we’ll just keep ticking along and we’ll see where we end up.
“As I’ve said before, we’ll be behind them every step of the way,” he said, before adding with a grin: “hopefully we can sneak in that top six!”
