Abbo: It Wasn’t Pretty
Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott was disappointed with the way his side’s winning run ended with a 2-2 draw against Pilkington XXX.
Hinckley twice took the lead through Luke Richards’ header and a JJ Melligan penalty, but AFC weren’t fluent and were twice pegged back by a spirited Pilks side.
And though Abbott said the heavy pitch wasn’t easy to play on, he still expected better from his team. ‘It wasn’t pretty, and we never really found our groove today from the start.
‘The pitch hasn’t been rolled for some time, and it’s getting incredibly heavy. It wasn’t a great spectacle and it wasn’t a great performance and we’ll move on to the next one.’
However, the unbeaten run extended to fourteen with yesterday’s point, which Abbott takes as a positive.
‘That’s a positive. It feels to me like our run has ended today because we’re always looking to win games. In the highly unlikely event of us being able to close the gap. maximum points are needed and it’s not helpful from that point of view today.
‘In the scheme of the season, we’ve been off colour today, but we’ve not lost the game. You get those scruffy results, but yet again, because of our start to the season we’ve got no buffer for results like that and that’s what we’ve got to learn for next season.
‘We’ve not allowed ourselves the room in the season to have games like that, so it wasn’t a great point today but we move on to next week.’
