Hinckley AFC recorded their biggest win of the season with a 13-0 victory away at bottom club Southam United.
Carl Abbott’s men were hoping to return to winning ways and took full advantage of their opposition’s frailties at the back as the home side could only field ten players.
There were notable contributions from Sam Agar with three goals and substitute Ryan Seal with a nine minute hat-trick, as they both staked their claim for the man of the match accolade.
Darious Darkin’s brace accompanied by goals from Javia Roberts, Mitchell Tomlinson, Alex Penny and Ryan Paddock completed the rout for AFC.
The travelling fans were rewarded by a focused performance for the full 90 minutes as their team never looked like taking the foot of the gas in an action packed game.
Abbott made four changes to the Hinckley side that lost to Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday as Marcus Jackson, Paddock, Jean Kalenda and Roberts came back into the side.
It was the hosts who nearly took an early lead in the first minute as Southam captain Max Beard dragged his shot wide when in a threatening position.
But Hinckley’s response was emphatic as moments later one of the smallest players on the pitch headed AFC in front, Roberts converting a good cross from full back Lee Thomas.
The opening goal gave the visitors huge confidence as they began to enforce their stamp on the game with long spells of patient possession.
In the 19th minute Agar scored the first of his treble with a well-placed header into the bottom corner from a Lee Butler cross to double his side’s advantage.
Just five minutes later Sean Williams won his side a penalty after his shot struck a Southam defender on the arm, but Agar had his spot kick well saved by Matt Archer who dived low to his left to deny the striker.
AFC added a third goal just past the half hour mark as the influential Darkin powered home from the edge of the box, skipping past his man before burying it in the corner.
The visitors put the game to bed just before half time with a quick-fire double to see the lead stretch to 5-0. Darkin added his second after some inventive football between Agar and Williams set up the midfielder to fire into the roof of the net.
Agar followed suit with his second as he tapped into an open goal, thanks to the work of Williams who rounded the goalkeeper and was hacked down leaving Agar to score.
There was no let up in the second half as the Southam goal continued to be peppered. Abbott introduced substitutes Seal and Penny to the action, and the duo made quite some impact.
It was an unlikely source who began the scoring in the second period as Seal set up Tomlinson to score just his second goal in 67 games for the club from just outside the box.
Seal then stole the limelight by scoring three times in quick succession, the pick of the goals a fantastic solo effort as Williams played him behind the backline before Seal took it round Archer to tap home.
Penny then unleashed an unstoppable strike from 25 yards which nestled in the bottom corner as Hinckley reached double figures.
The Saints were left with just nine men for the final 20 minutes as one of their players was forced off injured, but credit to the home side who continued to battle throughout and Archer produced several fine saves.
Agar was back into the action and completed his hat trick in the 71st minute, latching on to Seal’s cross in the box to keep the high intensity from AFC.
Then, after the third substitute David Blenkinsopp was fouled in the box by Mike Jefferson, it was captain Paddock who stepped up to take the spot kick. For a second time in the game Archer saved the penalty, only to knock the ball into the path of Paddock who to his relief tapped in the rebound.
AFC super sub Seal completed the scoring in the 82nd minute, again linking up with Agar who assisted his teammate for his fourth.
That equalled Hinckley’s record victory, and although they couldn’t find another goal to break the record, the return to winning ways came with some style.
