First new addition confirmed as Sheasby returns

Hinckley AFC can confirm our first new addition of the summer as powerful young forward Sonny Sheasby returns to the club.

A former member of our Under 18s side, Sheasby burst into the first team in 2023 after showing impressive goalscoring form for the youth team, and he carried that into his first-team debut with a hat-trick against Magna 73 in the Leicestershire Senior Cup.

That was one of four appearances in our title-winning season, his first taste of senior football, before a move to Lichfield City that summer as he chipped in to their title-winning season at step five.

He continued his development with Lichfield at step four, but suffered a serious knee ligament injury in September that stunted his progress on the pitch, but he surpassed his expected recovery time and was back playing for Lichfield towards the end of last season, well ahead of schedule.

Now fit again and ready to hit the ground running once more, he links back up with Hinckley ahead of our United Counties Premier North campaign in 2026/27.

Joint boss Ross Innes said: “Sonny is the epitome of the type of player and person we want for this season. Hard working, full of desire, and does all the right things in terms of his fitness, mentality and professionalism to give himself the best possible chance.

“He is someone who we have long admired and rate incredibly highly, and he has developed into something we are excited to take to the next level.

“He will bring power, a never say die attitude and a willingness to put his body on the line to our dressing room – not to mention his incredibly impressive goalscoring record.

“Welcome to the whole Sheasby family as well, a long time contributor to the 100 club. It is very much valued. First beer is on us! Be excited for Sonny. We are.”

On his return, Sheasby said: “I’m delighted to be joining Hinckley AFC and can’t wait to get started.

“As soon as Adam and Ross contacted me about their plans for the year, there was never any doubt in making my decision. I’m really looking forward and excited for the challenge ahead.”

Welcome back, Sonny!
