Match Preview: Yaxley (h)

Hinckley AFC return to United Counties Premier South action with the visit of Yaxley to Kirkby Road on Saturday.

A mixed week of cup away matches saw AFC exit the Leicestershire Challenge Cup at Ashby Ivanhoe, before bouncing back with a superb 3-1 win at ON Chenecks.

That was despite missing 11 players from the matchday squad through injury or cup-tie eligibility, and will give the management team plenty of selection dilemmas with a number of those bodies in contention to return this weekend.

The opposition

Yaxley ended a run of eight defeats in nine games in midweek, when a win over step six outfit Letchworth Garden City Eagles took them into the next round of their County Cup.

That run of defeats has seen them slip from 11th to 15th in the table, but where the gap to the play-offs was only two points in mid-September after a solid start, it’s now 15.

Home wins over Moulton and Daventry Town have shown their abilities, but out of their 15 points accumulated so far, only one (a draw at Easington Sports in August) has come on the road – and they are far stronger at their Leading Drove home which Hinckley will visit for the reverse fixture next week.

Frankie Webster is their leading scorer so far – he has seven goals, including a brace that helped them to that cup win on Tuesday.

From the dressing room

“We were missing a full 11 players last week, but we’re hoping that a lot of them will be back for today. Zaki and Chandler will still be missing for a period, but lots of returning faces gives us a real headache with how to manage the squad, given how well the young lads did last week.

“We’re back to our bread and butter of league action after a couple of weeks away, and the league is paramount. We know the objective in terms of what we want this season, and if we can start churning out performances in the way we know we can, we’ll be in and around those play-offs.”
