Match Preview: Hucknall Town (h)

Hinckley AFC will aim for a third straight win this weekend when Hucknall Town visit Kirkby Road with the sides level on points in the table.

After wins against Clay Cross Town in the league and Eccleshall in the FA Vase, Hinckley will go for three in a row for the first time this season when the Yellows head down from Nottinghamshire.

And Chris Tullin’s squad will be at full strength for the first time this season, with the last of the injured players, Max Jemson, now fit again and his return will be managed gradually to build up his minutes. That’s allowed Jordan Gray to gain some men’s football experience on dual registration with Saffron Dynamo, while Tullin also hopes to have another new signing over the line in time for the game.

The opposition

Hucknall will also have some new additions in their ranks after returning managers Aaron Large and Tris Whitman took over again last week – bringing a few former players back in with them.

The pair guided Hucknall to eighth last season before leaving for Ilkeston Town in the summer, but are now back at the Yellows after tough starts to the season for both sides.

Hucknall started the season well, with three wins and a draw from their first four league games, but since then have lost five in a row to fall to 16th in the table. They also lost to Belper United in the FA Vase last week but ran the league leaders close in a 2-1 loss.

Hinckley and Hucknall have almost identical records so far – both with 10 points from three wins and a draw, both with 14 goals scored while Hucknall have conceded one more – 19 to 18.

From the dressing room

“Hucknall will pose a tough challenge and with a new management team back in, the team we play will probably be significantly different from the one that has played over the last five or six weeks. That said, we’ll concentrate on ourselves and if we do it right, like we have in the last few weeks, then we have every confidence to come and get a win and take that unbeaten run through the whole of October.”
