A lot has been going on Hinckley AFC – games, goals and excitement at every turn – and the management team have issued their latest update after yesterday’s draw with Histon.
“One thing that has remained consistent is your unwavering support of the lads home and away. So as always, thank you.
The lads have been on a great run of eight games unbeaten and there is a real winning mentality and togetherness in the squad which is evident on the pitch. We love that about the group and will continue to drive its importance.
However, while it makes for good entertainment, we must address going down in games and making it far too interesting! It makes for entertaining games, and it has been fun although our blood pressure could do with a comfortable 1-0! It does show that we are never done in a game, and people should fear that about us. The lads were dissatisfied with drawing against Histon, and that gives you a clue as to where their mindset is now.
Because of the run of games, we have still incredibly only been able to train once, but Coops has implemented a running programme and the lads look fit for a full 90 minutes and beyond, which is reflected in our late wins.
We were sat in the bar talking with fans yesterday, devastated to have conceded a last second equaliser. We have had a night’s sleep to reflect, and to have earned the right to a victory in our performance for 80 minutes after being 2-0 down shows how formidable this group can become, and we can sense that they believe that.
Our rotation comes from the difficult task of one day’s rest between games, but lads have slotted in and out and have been comfortable, so our messages on how we want to play and be seen to be performing is definitely getting across.
With the return of the excellent Will Harris, arrival of the brilliant Zach Tellyn, the quality of Lewis Rankin and leadership of skipper Zaki Evans to return shortly, as well as a further new arrival or two, we are in the strongest position we have been since taking the job. Competition for places has never been higher.
The games we have had over the last four weeks are harder to win in our eyes – it is easy to look at the table and subconsciously take your foot off the gas. Nobody needs help getting up for a big game, and there are plenty of those to come.
We have made our expectations clear in the importance of graft, grit, body language and earning the right to play nice football by doing the basics first. We have the right characters for that in the dressing room, and this will only improve. We were asked what we are prioritising ahead of the League Cup tie, and quite simply we are prioritising winning every game.
A huge thanks must go to the likes of Dan, Gunny, DJ and all the volunteers and committee behind the scenes. We cannot believe the amount of work that takes place behind the scenes to allow us to simply manage the team as a priority – that is so important to us.
Let’s keep ticking along in the background.
The Management Team”
