Hinckley AFC will look for their fourth victory in ten days when they welcome Coton Green to Kirkby Road on Monday night.
AFC were assertive in their victory over Shawbury United on Saturday as three different goalscorers helped them to a 3-0 win.
It’s a victory that lifted them top of the early-season table and they could strengthen that start further against Coton Green.
The opposition
After last season’s eighth-placed finish, Coton Green appointed a new manager in the summer as Jason Pyott took over the reigns and was faced with a re-build of the squad.
They have endured a tough start, losing their opening five games including falling to Bilston Town on Saturday – albeit they held last season’s play-off chasers until the 85th minute.
Previous meetings
The sides picked up a win apiece from the meetings last season – both ending as away victories. Coton Green 2-1 won at Kirkby Road on a December Monday night courtesy of Connor Doyle and Matt Gardner, before Hinckley hit back in April as five different goalscorers hit the net in a comprehensive 5-0 win.
From the dressing room
“The schedule is tough but it’s the same for them too. In the Heather game we had to go with the same squad Saturday and Monday. That’s unrealistic and it’s why we have a big squad to deal with that turnaround.
“They’re a team who have had a tough start but they have a good manager in Jason Pyott. He’s a great bloke and I get on with him really well. They’ll get better. When you’re changing squads all the time, we’ve seen how that’s caught up with us before. They’re a good group of young players, so we’ve got to earn everything, outwork and outbattle them. We’re looking forward to it, and everyone enjoys playing more than training!”
