Hinckley AFC’s second pre-season friendly ended in a 4-1 defeat at A5 rivals Atherstone Town.
The Adders, last season’s Division One champions, scored twice in each half in the warm Warwickshire sunshine at Sheepy Road.
The home side made much of the early running in the heat and they were two ahead by half time thanks to a finish by former Hinckley man Mitchell Thomson, and an own goal.
Hinckley made a host of changes just after half time as manager Joe Conneely cast an eye over a number of young prospects.
And they competed well with their more experienced opposition, for whom former Bedworth front man Mitchell Piggon added two second half goals of his own.
Hinckley’s response came from a substitute trialist, but the home side looked assured ahead of their campaign at step five.
AFC are next in action away to Leicestershire rivals Birstall United on Friday evening.
