Match Preview: Quorn (a)

After an enforced ten day break, Hinckley AFC return to action with the League Cup trip to county rivals Quorn tonight, kick off 7-45pm.

AFC haven’t played for eleven days having not had a match scheduled on Saturday, but but will set foot on the pitch again with the second round tie away to higher level opposition.

There will be a number of familiar faces for Hinckley fans, with a large number of former players following Carl Abbott to Quorn. No fewer than 11 players have appeared for Quorn this season who once pulled on an AFC shirt.

They sit just inside the bottom half of the table with five wins and six losses among their 17 games thus far – despite securing the league’s top scorer, another former Hinckley striker Steve Hart, to a contract for the season.

Hart, though, won’t feature against AFC this evening having been sent off in their FA Vase defeat to Eastwood Community who, like Hinckley, play a level below Quorn.

The two sides have met once before in cup competitions, during Hinckley’s fine FA Vase run of two seasons ago. The third round tie at St John’s Park saw Hinckley win in extra time on their way to the last 16.

Quorn edged past Loughborough University to reach this stage, beating them 1-0 in their first round tie, while Hinckley received a bye to this stage.

This is the last second round tie to be played, and the winners will host AFC Wulfrunians in round three.
