Heather St John’s 1-2 Hinckley AFC

Hinckley AFC claimed the Simon Blyth Memorial Trophy for a fourth straight season as a goal in each half saw off the challenge of Heather St John’s.

On a sweltering day at St John’s Park, Heather started pn the front foot and could gave taken the lead had Kyle Jardine not fluffed his lines in the box.

But Hinckley improved after the drinks break, and took the lead when Fin Barker’s cross-shot evaded everyone in the box and nestled inside the far corner.

Hinckley took that lead into the break with a degree of fortune – Jacob Shilton cleared one off the line, it rebounded off a Heather attacker and Oli Bosworth claimed the loose ball in the biggest threat to their goal, while Bosworth also denied Jardine with a smart save.

Hinckley nearly doubled their lead early in the second half – Barker danced past four challenges on a mazy run before firing his shot narrowly wide.

But Heather equalised when Jardine went to ground in the box after Hinckley were caught on the ball, the referee pointed to the spot and Jardine got up to score from 12 yards.

Plenty of changes made for a stop-start half but Hinckley had the ball in the net for a second time through Luke Jones’ disallowed direct free kick, but they didn’t have to wait too much longer for the winner – a ball spun in behind the back line for Chandler Pegg to run on to and fire home what would prove to be the winner with a rasping finish.
