Match Preview: Northampton ON Chenecks (a)

Hinckley AFC continue their week of cup away games with a place in the United Counties League Cup quarter-finals up for grabs in a trip to Northampton ON Chenecks.

After losing out to Ashby Ivanhoe in the County Cup on Tuesday, the League Cup now marks Hinckley’s final cup competition of the season as they look to repeat last season by reaching the last eight.

Having overcome Staveley Miners Welfare in the preliminary round and then Aylestone Park in a thrilling first-round tie, Hinckley head to Northampton to face Chenecks for a second time this season, having beaten them 3-1 in the league in August despite a second-half onslaught from the visitors.

The opposition

Chenecks reached this stage with a pair of away wins, overcoming Division One side Sleaford Town 4-0 and then Ashby Ivanhoe 2-1.

They had a great September – winning five games on the bounce before a penalty shoot-out victory at Ardley United that extended their run in the FA Vase. They go to Newport Pagnell Town next week in that competition.

In the league, that impressive run was ended by home defeats to Godmanchester Rovers and leaders Nuneaton Town, to mean they sit 9th in the table – a point behind Hinckley with two games in hand.

However, one of those games in hand will be a defeat, because off-field issues meant they were forced to postpone a game against Daventry Town which has since been awarded to the opposition.

Lewis Irwin, last season’s top scorer, leads the way again with 12 goals while Ijah Augustine and Luca Iaciofano, who scored against Hinckley in August, have five each.
