Hinckley AFC head to Godmanchester Rovers this weekend hoping to stretch the unbeaten run under the new management team into double figures.
After three matches in seven days that were all packed with drama, Hinckley beat Oadby and Aylestone Park and were pegged back in stoppage time by Histon as they moved up to fifth in the table, into the next round of the League Cup and extended the unbeaten run to nine matches.
Remarkably, this will be the first Saturday away league match of the new management team’s tenure, as they face the first of this season’s quintet of trips east to Cambridgeshire.
And they will be boosted by the return of Brady Middleton to the forward line, who re-joined today from Coventry United.
The opposition
Godmanchester were reprieved from relegation after finishing bottom last season, but strengthened over the summer to currently sit outside the bottom two and with games in hand.
Among their summer signings was Craig Gillies, who scored 24 goals for March Town last season and has grabbed four already to start this season.
They have won two and drawn two of their first eight games, having already reached half of their points tally from the whole of last season. Their wins came away to Bugbrooke St Michaels and Northampton Sileby Rangers, while their draws have been impressive – at Moulton, who have won every other home game, and Eynesbury Rovers.
Godmanchester have also played fewer games than anyone else in the division, due to pitch issues at Bearscroft Lane that mean this will be their first home match of the season.
Last season’s meetings ended with a win apiece – both sides winning their respective home games 2-0, and Hinckley will hope to better last season’s visit this time around.
