Hinckley AFC’s new era starts with a visit to Pershore Town in the Isuzu FA Vase – a competition the new management team have fond memories of.
Ross Innes and Adam Davies twice took charge of FA Vase quarter-finals during their time with Atherstone, with they and Chris Tullin enjoying a good record in the tournament.
And they will hope to continue that with a winning start to their time at Hinckley, with the management team working hard to ensure depth in the squad for this weekend’s double header. They could have a couple of new faces in the squad in time for the trip to Worcestershire.
But Hinckley will be without Bryan Kohyrelon, the striker who has joined Rugby Borough this week to progress to step four.
The opposition
Pershore are also under relatively new management after the departure of Danny Janes, who took them to just outside the play-offs last season, and the arrival of Devin Ward this summer.
And they have started the season nicely, with seven points from their first four league games as well as progression to the preliminary round of the FA Cup. Like Hinckley, they were knocked out with a 3-0 home defeat to step four opponents last weekend.
They won 3-1 at home to Thornbury Town on Tuesday evening, with Yuri Quintas scoring twice.
From the dressing room
“We’re super excited. In a way, it’s written in the stars that our first game will be in the FA Vase. We love that competition, having got to two quarter-finals but sadly we fell short on penalties in one and extra time in the other.
“We love what the competition provides, there’s the financial gain the further you go, but most importantly it gives the chance for the fans to be involved in those special experiences and that, alongside the increased interest and attendances you get from a run, are what we want to create.”
Ross Innes
