The curtain comes down on Hinckley AFC’s first season at step five with a home local derby against Lutterworth Town on Easter Monday.
Hinckley go into their final game of the season knowing a win will secure a ninth-placed finish, barring Northampton ON Chenecks winning by a six-goal greater margin. And that top-half placing which would mark a good start to life after promotion for Joe Conneely and his side.
Despite losing to champions St Neots Town last weekend, Hinckley still have the league’s fourth-best home record and will be seeking a 12th Premier South win of the season at Kirkby Road to wrap up the campaign.
The opposition
Lutterworth will head into the new season looking for a new manager, after the departure of Kevin Burke earlier this week.
Burke, who took over at Dunley Way in December, stepped down with just two games remaining of the season with his assistant Alex Turnbull taking charge for this final match of the campaign.
That managerial switch followed a run of seven defeats in eight, which saw Lutterworth drop into 15th place and became eight in nine after they lost 2-0 to Rugby Borough on Saturday.
Prior to that, their home form was excellent but they have struggled on the road for much of the season, and no side has picked up fewer than their eight away Premier South points.
From the dressing room
“If we can win and finish ninth, then we’ll see that as a success, along with reaching the quarter-finals of the League Cup. That’s the aim, to send all the supporters home happy, and we can then take a little bit of momentum heading into the summer, have a bit of a reset and then start again.”
