Match Preview: Histon (a)

Hinckley AFC enter the final two months of the season in fifth place, but on Saturday face one of the sides hoping to replace them in that spot by the end of the season in Histon.

Heading into March, Hinckley occupy the final play-off place on goal difference and will stay there with an away victory on the outskirts of Cambridge.

But this weekend they’ll visit a Histon side who will target that spot too, the hosts another of eight sides separated by just eight points in a tightly-packed UCL Premier South table.

The opposition

Histon’s top-five hopes are still very much alive, but have been dented by back-to-back away defeats in which they have conceded nine goals.

Losing 3-0 at March Town and then 6-1 at Coventry United has seen them slip to 11th, six points behind Hinckley but with a game in hand that could prove all important.

But while those away losses have set them back, their home form has been excellent. Just two defeats at Bridge Road all season have been a pillar of their play-off charge – and they have both come to the top two, St Neots and Aylestone Park.

Connor Barnes is their leading scorer with 12, while Matt Allan, Joe Sutton and Max York have all chipped in with seven each.
