Match Preview: Coventry United (h)

After three successive away games, Hinckley AFC return to Kirkby Road on Monday night to take on a Coventry United side also still in race for the play-offs.

A tenth consecutive win at home will be Hinckley’s target as they return to Kirkby Road, where AFC haven’t lost since the end of August.

Joe Conneely’s side are now sixth after Saturday’s abandoned game at Aylestone Park, but can move back into the top five with a win, or even a draw, against Coventry United.

A win for the visitors, meanwhile, would leave six sides separated by just four points entering the final couple of months of the season.

The opposition

Had Coventry United lost to another play-off chaser, Eynesbury Rovers, on Saturday then they would have been 10 points behind Eynesbury with 10 games to go and facing a huge uphill battle to stay in the hunt.

But having become the first team to beat Eynesbury since Hinckley did so in early December, Coventry United kept their top five hopes very much alive.

While they are still 11th, the gap from United to Daventry in fifth is now seven points, with a game in hand as the play-off race got even tighter over the weekend.

Scorers in their win on Saturday were Cameron Dunn and Dylan Parker – their two biggest goal threats all season with 13 and 15 respectively.

From the dressing room

“The away game was real turning point for us, we were dreadful. It was Alfie Marsden’s first game after joining as coach and he probably questioned what he’d let himself in for! They’ve also been on a good run since then to get in the play-off mix, but if you said to me after that game that we’d be where we are in mid-February, I’d have snapped your hand off.

“We’ve worked really hard to get where we are, our home form has been outstanding. Whoever we play we feel like we can beat and hopefully we can win again. But we know from the away game that Coventry United will be a really tough game, and with a few lads who used to play for us, they’ll be confident they can come here and beat us.”
