Hinckley AFC’s final match of 2024 sees a festive Boxing Day derby as they make the short trip down the A5 to Lutterworth Town for a midday kick off.
Boxing Day will see the curtain come down on a successful 2024 for Hinckley, after completing an historic Midland League Division One title win that was the first league championship for a Hinckley side since United in 2001.
And having now built on that by establishing themselves at step five, Hinckley are guaranteed to end calendar year inside the top eight in what has been a successful start to life at a higher level.
The opposition
Hinckley’s next challenge is to overcome Lutterworth in what will be the first league meeting between the two sides – albeit it’s also Hinckley’s third trip to Dunley Way of this season already. AFC won in the League Cup there at the start of November, and also won against Oadby Town at the ground in August.
Lutterworth are another of the sides packed into the heavily congested middle of the table, six points behind Hinckley with a game in hand. They sit 12th with 27 points from their 20 games.
Now under the new management of Kevin Burke, the Swifts have won one and lost one since he took charge – beating Histon at Dunley Way before falling to a 4-3 defeat at Daventry Town at the weekend.
Matt Langham has scored four in his last three to put him on the cusp of double figures for the season, although leading scorer Louis Samuels has recently departed for step four Shepshed Dynamo.
