Hinckley AFC return to league action with the visit of one of the league’s early high flyers Daventry Town to Kirkby Road.
Having had a well-earned eight days away from matches since completing a third game in less than a week, Hinckley haven’t played a league game since beating Oadby Town 4-1 on 14th August. They then went down to Malvern Town in the FA Cup two days later.
There’s also a boost on the availability front, as AFC will welcome Jack Edwards back into the squad following suspension, while goalkeeper Carl O’Neill is also fit for the first time this season.
The opposition
Daventry’s last league game was also against Oadby – it came last week, with both sides having been knocked out of the FA Cup early on, and, like Hinckley’s game against the same opponents, offered up an entertaining game.
A 3-3 draw marked the first time Daventry have dropped points in the United Counties Premier South this season, in a game where both sides came from behind to lead before settling for a point each.
Daventry have scored 17 goals in their four games thus far, putting five past Coventry United and Eynesbury Rovers and four past Leicester Nirvana.
Leading scorer Dylan Wilson has six of those goals while former Hinckley forward Sam Lockley also plays for Daventry now and has also found the net this season.
From the dressing room
“We watched Daventry before we played Oadby. They’re a good team and, like us, conceded one goal in every game before last weekend. They’re a good team, and they’ll enjoy coming to us on a big 3G pitch. So we’ll have to work hard, because they’ll fancy themselves to be up there come the end of the season.
“It’s a big week for us, with games to come against Northampton Sileby Rangers and then March who are another side who will be right up there. These are good tests for us coming up and we can now concentrate on the league for a month before the FA Vase game in late September. We’ll use the squad as best we can to pick up as many points as we can.”
