Hinckley AFC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Rugby Town at Kirkby Road in their penultimate pre-season fixture.
In what was a very watchable game despite the wet weather, Hinckley twice came from behind to extend their unbeaten pre-season against a side from the league above.
The sides exchanged early chances as Rugby struck a post before Zach Tellyn forced visiting ‘keeper Paul Hathaway to claw one off the line.
And it was the visitors who took the lead with a superbly worked goal, a fabulous exchange of passes involving David Kolodynski ended with Trey Charles scoring.
Hinckley nearly responded through Jack Edwards’ header that clipped the bar before the break, but did equalise just after it when Isa Abraham got to the byline and Luke Jones converted.
The visitors restored their lead when Charles took advantage of hesitation in the defence and Hilton Arthur slotted home, but again Hinckley responded through a fine goal from Josh Beeson, who drilled home on the angle.
Hathaway denied Bryan Kohyrelon late on and that was the final chance for either side to win a game that both will feel offered a good workout.
With less than two weeks to go until the start of the United Counties Premier South season, Hinckley visit Heather St John’s for the Simon Blyth Memorial Trophy on Saturday in the final match before the competitive season.
