Despite a wonder goal from Brady Middleton, Hinckley bowed out of the Leicestershire Senior Cup after Ingles triumphed in a penalty shoot-out to move into the semi finals.
Middleton’s strike lit up a scrappy game, but the home side levelled late on before keeping their nerve in the shoot-out to complete a fightback and make progress.
Though always competitive, the game was far from a classic. Neither side ever came to terms with the bobbly surface and it wasn’t a great spectacle for the fans who braved a cold evening.
It needed something special to liven the game up, and it came with 70 minutes on the clock. There seemed little on for Middleton but he unleashed a 25 yard shot that rifled into the top corner.
It was a goal worthy of winning any game, and it looked like winning this one until Ingles levelled with a couple of minutes on the clock. Set pieces always looked their likeliest way back into the game, and Cam Smith created it as he launched a huge throw into the danger zone and Bill Blackshaw forced the ball home from close range.
The tie went straight to penalties, Ingles ‘keeper Lorcan Morrisey saved two of Hinckley’s three spot kicks and when Owen Brader converted Ingles’ fourth, their semi-final spot was confimed.
