Manager Joe Conneely says his side gave him the “ruthless and relentless” second half he asked for in the 7-0 win over AFC Bridgnorth.
Chandler Pegg hit a treble with Matt Dawson, Sam Walton and Lewis Rankin also on target in an eighth straight Hinckley win.
Six of those goals came in the second half and, after a first half that was scrappy for spells, Conneely said he demanded more from his players at half time.
And he was delighted with how they delivered the message. He said: “We were a bit poor first half. We didn’t pass the ball quickly enough to stretch them, and played into their hands a bit. But we made a change at half time and we were relentless.
“We asked the lads to be ruthless in front of goal and that’s what we did. We took the game away from them in a five-minute spell.
“Bridgnorth are a good group, I hope they stay up. The staff are complimentary and respectful, so I hope they get out of the battle they’re in. They frustrated us for 45 minutes but we had to be patient.”
Pegg’s hat-trick goal, the sixth of the match, brought up Hinckley’s 100th league goal of the season.
It’s the second year in a row they’ve managed that landmark but Conneely says that means nothing if they aren’t celebrating come the end of the month.
“We said at the start of the year that I didn’t think it would be as free-flowing and free-scoring as last year. But with the players we have, we’ve got goals all over. Chandler’s got 30 and has been unbelievable but we’ve got plenty of lads who score goals.
“It’s a pleasing stat but as we saw last year, stats and records mean nothing if you don’t achieve what you want at the end.”
Pegg also brought up a personal landmark with his 30th of the season, and he now leads the way in the Division One golden boot standings.
That’s some effort considering he didn’t sign for the club until the end of September, and Conneely says the forward is enjoying being at Hinckley.
“We wax lyrical about Chandler and rightly so because it’s not just his goals, he offers so much more. He’s got a number of assists, he’s won a number of penalties.
He’s enjoying his football, he’s in a good place, we’re looking after him and he’s repaying us by scoring plenty of goals and assisting.”
