Manager Joe Conneely praised Hinckley AFC for “finding a way to win the game” after the 2-0 win over Haughmond.
On a blustery afternoon, second-half goals from debutant Joe Obi and Matt Dawson saw Hinckley to victory to mean they stay third in the Division One table.
The conditions meant chances were at a premium but Conneely said the win in a scrappy game was nice.
He said: “It was a really windy day, which dictated it would be scrappy. We created a couple of chances first half, they haven’t threatened but they kept their shape well.
“When the wind is bad, we said at half time to find any way to win the game. I’m pleased for Joe, who took his goal well on debut.
“Overall it was nice to come away with two goals and a clean sheet.”
That clean sheet was AFC’s first in the league since the end of November, with the manager previously calling on his side to cut out the errors that have seen them ship “too many” goals.
He said this effort showed good concentration defensively, but also said the whole team contributed to that effort.
“It’s always nice. As much as they haven’t threatened us too much, you still have to stay switched on.
“They broke us with one straight ball which annoyed me a bit in the second half, but apart from that they haven’t created too much which is testament to us as a group.
“It’s been a long time, so especially for Brandon we’re pleased for him.”
With a goal and an assist, Obi settled into life at Hinckley quickly on debut after joining from Atherstone.
Conneely was pleased with what he, along with fellow new boys Sam Ellis and Luke Francis in the second half, offered the team.
“We know what Joe gives us. It was nice to get him 90 minutes, he hasn’t played too much. He brings people into the game. We’ll create chances for him as much as we can, and it’s nice to see him score on debut because you always want that one as quickly as you can.
“Sam was very good when he came on. He’s still an energetic young lad who wants to get on the ball. He’s matured a lot off the ball and sat in when we needed him to. He covered a lot of ground well.
“Luke looked nervy to start with which is understandable. We saw what he can give us, had a couple of chances and he’ll get better once he knows the boys so he has plenty of time to settle into what we do.”
