Hinckley AFC Under 18s suffered their first defeat of the season in a 1-0 Eastern Division loss to Inkberrow.
Despite the defeat, it was still a good performance from the young men of Hinckley on a tough, bobbly pitch, writes Lee Measom.
Hinckley’s first chance properly came through Kealey, who had a shot well saved by the home ‘keeper, and seconds later, Wade ghosted through Inkberrow’s defence but was denied by another good save.
Inkberrow’s first proper chance came through a throw in, which found a forward on the edge of the box, who managed to pull a shot off but it went over.
Four minutes into the second half, the hosts had a chance down the left hand side, another shot eventually followed but again was put over.
Kealey went close for AFC shortly after, but Inkberrow had made this game their own now, and so it proved when they broke the deadlock. A good free-kick from the left hand side came off a Hinckley defender and passed the keeper to give the hosts the lead.
Midway through the half almost saw a second – a goal line scramble from an Inkberrow corner was originally saved, another shot quickly followed which looked destined for the net but hit the post and then a third chance was saved by the visiting keeper.
As Hinckley looked to save their unbeaten record, Checkland made the goalkeeper work near the end with his free-kick being spilt by the hosts keeper but no Hinckley player reacted and the home side kept up their 100% start to the campaign.
