Manager Joe Conneely praised his Hinckley AFC side’s best performance of the season “by far” in Monday’s 6-1 win over Chelmsley Town.
Hinckley noticed up their biggest win over the campaign to date with three goals in each half to move above their visitors in the table.
And it saw six different goalscorers as they contributions came from across the park.
In particular, the first half performance delighted the manager as well as how they came flying out of the blocks. He said: “We played really well.
“We got off to a fantastic start and scored three really well-worked goals in the first half. It just seemed to click tonight.
“We saw last year that when we get off to a good start, we can put the game to bed early. Getting the fourth in the second half probably wins it for us. It was a fantastic team performance.”
Chandler Pegg’s goal inside two minutes was his second in two games since re-joining the club.
That, alongside goals for debutant Reece Jacobs and Isa Abraham, meant three strikes by recent additions.
And the manager is pleased with the improving strength of his squad.
“He (Pegg) knows where to be. We’ve missed that so far this year, a striker playing in and around the box. It’s a lovely pull back from Ranks (Lewis Rankin) and Chandler’s in the right place.
“He’s been a fantastic addition, as has Reece who we saw a glimpse of. And Matt Dawson who played his first half of football in a while. He was brilliant when he came on.
“So we’re getting there. It’s always a slow process with a new group but we’re pleased with how tonight went.”
Conneely felt his went “scrappy” for ten minutes in the second half which allowed Chelmsley to score their goal and have a second ruled out.
He put that down to the substitutes taking time to get into the game, but was pleased with how they adapted after that initial period.
He says their challenge is now to match the blueprint of how his side scored their three first half goals – with flowing, passing moves for the second and third in particular.
“There’s no excuse not to do it here. We knew Chelmsley would come with a plan to sit off and catch us on the counter. We had to try and move them around.
“It started with Brandon, he needed to be crisp in his first pass out to get us moving and we were crisp all over in the first half.
“It (the second) was a lovely flick round the corner from Jack, and Ben took it well. And the third was the same, we moved them around and scored a really good goal.
There’s no bobble here, what you see is what you get. A little bit of rain helps too when it adds a bit of zip. We’ve got to go and follow it up on Saturday in a very tough game at Ashby, and we’ve got to try and go on a run.”
