After reaching the final last year, Hinckley AFC will seek to start another lengthy Polymac Packaging League Cup run with a win over landlords Heather St John’s this evening, kick off 7-30pm.
Last season’s campaign saw AFC make it all the way to the Bescot Stadium, with narrow defeat to Alvechurch meaning Carl Abbott’s side finished as runners-up.
Now, with Dean Thomas in interim charge, Hinckley will start their journey in this season’s competition against their landlords.
It will be a tough tie for Hinckley against a Heather side who have started the season well under new boss Simon Lyons.
Lyons was in charge of the Coleshill Town side that reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase last year, and has brought with him some of the players who starred in that run.
As a consequence, they have won five, drawn one and lost three of their nine league games thus far, sitting eighth in the table but with games in hand on most sides around them.
Like Hinckley, they have also been finding the net with regularity. Only AFC and Walsall Wood have scored more times than Heather this year.
They were victorious over Division Two side Barnt Green Spartak in round one, but have exited at this stage in both of the last two seasons.
The winners of the tie will travel to Lichfield City or Rocester in round three.
