It’s the start of a new era for Hinckley AFC this afternoon as they travel to Chelmsley Town on Non-League Day in their first match without Carl Abbott at the helm.
In Dean Thomas’ first game in interim charge, it promises to be a crossover of old and new with assistant manager Paul Tomlinson and club captain Lee Butler both in their final game at the club.
Tomlinson will follow Abbott to his new club after the match, while club captain Butler and leading goalscorer George Bowerman are both seeking the opportunity to play at a higher level.
Steve Hart, though, says he won’t be going anywhere with the striker looking to extend his goal-a-game stay at the club.
Still in third in the Total Motion MFL Division One, today AFC travel to a Chelmsley side who had won five of their first six league games but three consecutive defeats have left them in eighth place, with 15 points from their nine games thus far.
Despite their strong start, only Bolehall Swifts and the bottom two, Nuneaton Griff and Coventry Alvis, have scored fewer goals than Chelmsley – in contrast to Hinckley’s best attack in the league. Six of those goals have come from the boot of Jemuel Mills, their biggest threat in front of goal.
Today being Non-League Day, Chelmsley are also giving away a free programme bundle to all paying supporters, which includes a replica of programme from the game between Ashford Town and Hinckley Athletic in 1966-67 – something that is sure to interest some AFC fans.
Chelmsley share Coleshill Town’s Pack Meadow ground, which means the game will be played on a 3G artificial surface. The ground is on Packington Lane, Coleshill, Warwickshire, B46 3JQ.
